How to Cook Chicken Wings under the Grill

3kg Bulk 3-Joint Chicken Wings

Grilled chicken wings are crisp-skinned finger food without heating the oven — a hot grill, sticky edges, and dinner that disappears fast. 3kg Bulk 3-Joint Chicken Wings is the freezer-filling bulk pack; Chicken Flats (350-400g) is the wing-flat tray when you want even pieces. Shop both in chicken and BBQ.

Grill method

Thaw overnight in the fridge if frozen. Pat very dry — moisture stops the skin crisping. Toss with a little oil, salt, pepper, and paprika or a dry rub. Preheat the grill to medium-high. Spread the wings in a single layer on a rack over a tray so fat drips away. Cook 8 to 12 minutes a side, turning once or twice, until the skin is crisp and the thickest joint hits 75°C with juices running clear. Bulk 3-joint packs need a touch longer near the drumette bone — probe beside the bone, not against it. Brush with glaze only in the last three to five minutes so sugar does not burn. Rest two minutes. Do not crowd the rack; steam kills the crisp.

Oven, air fryer and BBQ backup

No grill: oven 200°C for 35 to 45 minutes turning once, air fryer 190°C for 22 to 28 minutes flipping halfway, or BBQ over medium indirect heat with a final sear. Browse chicken for wings, flats and drumsticks, and BBQ when you want a full grill spread.

What to serve

Slaw, dips, and soft rolls, or a sharp salad and chips. Leftover wing meat shreds into wraps or fried rice — cool quickly, fridge covered, and eat within a day or two. Freeze spare packs flat; thaw fully so the skin crisps rather than steams.

Times above are a guide for home ovens, air fryers and pans — always trust a probe over the clock, and rest meat before you carve so the juices stay in the slice, not on the board. British packs vary a little in thickness, so start checking a few minutes early the first time you cook a new size.

Write your own fridge note the first time you cook a new pack size — home ovens and pans vary, and a two-minute early check beats dry meat. Rest on a warm plate, not a cold board, so the juices stay put when you carve or plate up.
