How Many a BBQ Party Pack Feeds

2 minute read

BBQ packing on the internet is a sport of optimism. A photograph of a table is not a portion count. At Meatsupermarket.com a party pack feeds the number of burgers, sausages and chicken pieces inside it, plus sides, minus the person who eats three. BBQ party packs and BBQ meat bundles are useful when you read the contents like a butcher, not like a brochure.

Burgers and sausages

24x Prime Beef Burgers MEGA BBQ Pack is twenty-four 4oz burgers. That is 24 buns if everyone has one, or 12 people if the hungry ones double up. 24x Pork Sausage MEGA BBQ Party Pack is the sausage version of the same idea. THE DIRTY DOZEN is a mixed dozen for a smaller fire. Do not buy two megas “for atmosphere”. Buy one mega of the thing people actually eat, and a smaller pack of the other.

Chicken wings disappear faster than steak. Ribs are a slow cook; they are not a surprise extra for when the burgers run out unless they have been on for hours. A budget BBQ hamper is a mixed starter for a small gathering, not a wedding. If you are feeding more than ten adults as a main, you want the 24s, not a pretty box of eight.

Sides do the rest

If you have salads, bread and a pudding, people eat less meat. If you have only meat, they eat more meat. Count that in. A pack that “feeds eight” on a photo with six salads will not feed eight blokes and a bag of crisps. We would rather you bought enough than you stood at the grill apologising. Leftover uncooked burgers freeze. Leftover hunger does not.

Weather and the second pack

Have a spare 8-pack of burgers in the freezer if your gatherings grow in the garden. Do not open it unless you need it. That is cheaper than a second full party box “just in case” that then sits thawed on a table. Party packing is arithmetic plus one spare, not a warehouse in the hedge.

Children eat less meat than the adults who invited them, until they do not. Count children as a half only if they are small and there are sides. Teenagers are adults with longer arms. Pack for the teenagers. Leftover raw meat is a solved problem. Hungry teenagers at a dying grill are not. Count drinks and sides too: a table with nothing but meat will empty a 24-pack faster than a table with bread and salad.
