Times come from our recipe guides linked in the table. Air fryers vary by size and wattage, so check at the lower time the first time you cook a cut, and use a meat thermometer. Chicken, pork, sausages, burgers and mince should be steaming hot all the way through with no pink meat (the Food Standards Agency advises 70°C for 2 minutes in the centre).
Cuts that suit the air fryer
Getting the best from your air fryer
Preheat if your machine likes a warm start, pat the meat dry and cook in a single layer so the hot air can reach every side. Turn or shake halfway, and for steak, take it out of the fridge 20–30 minutes before cooking.
Check the centre
A probe thermometer in the thickest part is the surest test: around 75°C for chicken, and steaming hot with no pink for pork, sausages, burgers and mince. Steak can be served pink.
Joints in the air fryer
Small joints work too: see gammon in the air fryer and pork belly in the air fryer. For the oven, use our roast cooking time calculator.
