How do I cook rump steak?
Get the pan very hot, cook a 6oz steak for two to three minutes a side, then rest it. Slice across the grain if serving as strips.
Rump or sirloin?
Rump is cheaper per pack and stronger in flavour; sirloin is a touch more tender. Two 6oz sirloins are £8.99. See sirloin steaks.
Do you do rump multi-packs?
Yes — 8x and 10x 6oz packs when in stock, plus Big Daddy singles. More offers on meat deals.
What about steak strips?
Extra lean rump strips sit on this counter for fajitas and stir-fries. Full steak hub: beef steaks.
How do you prepare rump steak?
Take it out of the fridge 20 minutes before cooking, pat it dry, rub it with oil and salt it just before it goes into a ripping-hot pan. After cooking, rest it for five minutes and slice it across the grain.
Is rump steak good?
Yes. Rump has more flavour than sirloin or fillet and costs less, so it is the butcher's pick for flavour and value. It is a little firmer, so cook it hot and fast and slice it across the grain.
What are rump steaks?
Steaks cut from the rump, the muscle at the back end of the sirloin. Lean, beefy and firmer than sirloin, they suit a hot pan, the grill or the BBQ.
How do you cook rump steak medium rare?
For a 6oz rump steak, about 2–3 minutes a side in a ripping-hot pan, flipping once, until it reaches 52–54°C in the centre, then rest it for five minutes.
