Piri Piri, Garlic or Chinese Chicken

0 comments  •   2 minute read

Not every night wants a spice drawer. Flavoured meat and ready to cook meat exist because people still want supper to taste of something. At Meatsupermarket.com the honest choice on chicken breast is piri-piri, garlic, or Chinese — three different tables, same cook. They are not “gourmet sauces”. They are seasoned fillets so you can get a pan on.

The three flavours

Piri-Piri Chicken Breast 1kg is heat and vinegar-tang; good with salad and potatoes, not with a mild child unless they asked. Garlic Chicken Breast 1kg is the crowd pack, the one you cook when the table is mixed. Chinese Chicken Breast 1kg wants rice and greens, and it will catch if you use a scorching pan because of the sugar in the marinade. Medium-high, not incinerator.

All three cook like chicken breast: 75°C, rest, do not wander off. Pan 5 to 6 minutes a side depending on thickness, or oven 200°C for 18 to 22 minutes. Slice across. If you cook the whole kilo, you have lunches. Shop piri piri chicken or the garlic and Chinese collections when you want the same flavour on thighs or flats instead of breast.

Do not mix them in one pan

Piri-piri juice in a garlic pan makes a muddle. Cook one flavour a night. Freeze the other packs raw. Ready-flavoured chicken fails when people treat three kilos as one curry. It succeeds when it is a named supper: piri-piri Tuesday, garlic Thursday. That is less exciting than a fusion bowl and much more likely to get eaten.

When to buy plain breast instead

If you already have a sauce, buy plain 1kg or 5kg breast and stop paying for a marinade you will wash off. Flavoured packs are for the nights you do not have a sauce. That is the whole decision, and it is kinder than a cupboard of sticky jars you opened once.

Taste a slice before you add more salt; marinades vary in saltiness. Then leave it alone. The point of a flavoured kilo is that supper is already decided. If you start “improving” it with three more sauces, you wanted a project, and a plain fillet would have been cheaper. We packed the flavour so you could stop at the pan.

Keep a cheap probe in the drawer and use it once so you stop guessing. A rest on a warm plate does more for juice than another five minutes of heat. Buy the pack again only if this one left the freezer as dinners, not as a frozen brick with a good name. That is as true of Piri Piri, Garlic or Chinese Chicken as of any other pack we send out of the cutting room. Cook it like the cut it is, and it will earn the next click.
