How to Cook a Full English Breakfast

0 comments  •   2 minute read

A full English fails when everything hits a cold plate in the wrong order. Sausages need the longest, bacon wants a shorter fierce heat, gammon is a steak, and eggs go last. Buy the meat in breakfast meats and you can cook a fry-up from one shop rather than three packets from a supermarket fridge.

Sausages first

6x Pork Sausages - 350g Pack is a 6-pack for a household fry-up; the 12x and 24x packs are for the freezer and for guests. Oven is the calm method: 200°C for 20 to 25 minutes, turning once, until 75°C in the centre. Pan: 18 to 20 minutes on medium, turning often, never a screaming heat or the skins split and the inside stays pink. Air fryer: 180°C for 12 to 15 minutes, shaking once. Start the sausages before you touch anything else.

Bacon and gammon

Smoked Back Bacon 454g under a hot grill, 4 to 5 minutes a side for a cooked rasher that still bends, 6 minutes if you want it crisp. Streaky needs a minute less because it is fattier. Pan-fried bacon: medium heat, pour off fat halfway if it is swimming. Gammon Steak 2x 8oz is the “ham and eggs” plate: 4 minutes a side in a pan, rest 2 minutes, fried egg on top. Do not cook gammon as long as a sausage; it is already cured and it dries.

Oven tray versus pan, and what to buy

If you are feeding more than two, put sausages and bacon on one tray at 200°C: sausages 20 minutes, bacon added for the last 10. Eggs and tomatoes still want a pan. Shop sausages and bacon together, or pick a back bacon pack if you prefer a leaner rasher to streaky. The family breakfast bundle is the one-box version of the same shop when you do not want to build it yourself.

Grill or oven for the meat, pan for the eggs: that split is how a full English scales past two people without a six-ring hob. Keep cooked sausages and bacon on a tray in a 100°C oven while the eggs fry. Nobody wants a cold sausage because you were still cracking eggs. If you are only cooking for two, a 6-pack of sausages and a 454g bacon still make sense; freeze the rest the same morning, labelled, so the next fry-up is a defrost not another shop.

Sausages, then bacon, then gammon, eggs last. Time the meat, not the toast, and the plate arrives hot together.
