Christmas meat hampers are a brilliant way to stock up for the festive fortnight, or to send a present that actually gets used. But a hamper is only good value if it contains the right things in the right amounts, and arrives when you need it. Before you order, here's a butcher's checklist of what to look for in Christmas meat hampers, plus the hampers and gifts we have available.

1. Check the contents and weights
A good hamper lists every item with its weight or count, such as "4 x 6oz sirloin steaks" or "2 x 400g lean steak mince", not just "a selection of steaks". That lets you work out what you're getting and compare it with buying loose. All of our hampers list the full contents on the product page. If a listing is vague, ask before you buy.
2. Think about how you'll use it over Christmas
The festive period isn't just Christmas Day. There's Christmas Eve, Boxing Day, the in-between days and New Year, often with more people than usual. A hamper of everyday cuts like mince, chicken, bacon and sausages takes care of the meals around the big day, so you can put your effort into the main roast.
- For the days around Christmas: a mixed family hamper, such as Feed the Family for Less – 2 Hampers On Us! (£94.04) or Buy 1 Essentials Hamper, Get 2 More for 1p (£122.99).
- For a steak night or a gift: The Steak Lover’s Gift Box (£79.99), which includes a 900g–1.2kg tomahawk steak, along with rump, sirloin and ribeye steaks, pork loin steaks and steak burgers.
- For high-protein households: Double Up Essentials Hamper – Second for £5 (£99.99), with diced chicken breast, lean steak mince and sirloin steaks.
Our meat hampers guide goes through the contents of each one.
3. Fresh or frozen?
Some items in a hamper may be sent frozen or previously frozen, and the product page should say so. Frozen and previously frozen meat is ideal for stocking up ahead of time, but plan for thawing: large joints need a day or more in the fridge. If you're buying a gift, make sure the recipient knows to unpack it into the fridge or freezer as soon as it arrives.
4. Check the delivery dates
December is the busiest time of year for meat delivery. Our Christmas 2026 order and delivery dates will be published on our Christmas meat order page as soon as they're confirmed. Until then, you can order for normal delivery and freeze. Read our delivery information: weekday delivery is free on orders over £85 (£80 in Scotland), and hampers are packed chilled in an insulated box.
5. Make room in the freezer
A big hamper can take up a lot of space. Before delivery, clear the freezer, and plan to freeze anything you won't use within a couple of days in meal-sized portions. Label and date everything. See our bulk buying and freezer guide.
6. Compare the value properly
Work out the price per kilo, or add up what the same items would cost loose. Multi-hamper offers can be very good value, but only if you'll use all of it. For a smaller household, a single hamper or a build-your-own hamper may suit better.
Meat hampers as Christmas gifts
Meat makes a surprisingly good present for the food lover who has everything, but it's perishable, so check a few things first:
- Will someone be in? A chilled box needs to go into the fridge or freezer promptly.
- Do they have freezer space?
- Do they eat everything in it? Check for any dietary requirements.
If you're not sure, a gift card is the safe option: our Gift Cards start at £10.00 and let them choose their own cuts. For business gifting, see our guide to corporate Christmas hampers.
Don't forget the main event
A hamper looks after the everyday meals; you'll still need a centrepiece. See our best beef joint for Christmas dinner and the full Christmas meat guide for gammon, lamb and pork options, and add the trimmings from our Christmas trimmings.
Plan meals around the hamper
Once it's arrived, sketch a rough plan for the fortnight: a quick bolognese or chilli on a busy shopping day, a fry-up with the bacon and sausages on Boxing Day morning, a steak night between Christmas and New Year. Take out what you need the night before so it can thaw slowly in the fridge.
