Ingredients
- 400–800g lean beef mince
- 1 onion, finely chopped; 2 garlic cloves; 1 carrot, grated (optional)
- 1 tbsp oil; 400g tin chopped tomatoes; 2 tbsp tomato puree; 1 tsp oregano; salt and pepper
- White sauce: 40g butter, 40g flour, 500ml milk; grated cheddar; lasagne sheets
Method
- Heat oil; soften onion (and carrot). Add garlic, then mince; brown well. Stir in puree, tomatoes, oregano; simmer 20–25 minutes until thick. Season.
- For white sauce: melt butter, stir in flour, cook 1 minute; whisk in milk until smooth and thick. Season.
- Layer mince, lasagne sheets and white sauce in a baking dish (finish with white sauce). Top with cheddar.
- Bake at 180°C fan for 30–40 minutes until bubbling and golden. Rest 10 minutes.
- Serve beef lasagne with lean mince with salad or garlic bread — proper British family bake.
