Ever wondered what happens between clicking "place order" and the box landing on your doorstep? In this video Dean from the Meatsupermarket.com team walks through the packing bench at our Cornwall butchery, step by step, using a real order.

Shop Fresh Lean Beef Mince - 2x 400g
What the video shows
- Your order comes through and is printed as an invoice for the cutting and packing team.
- The meat is cut and packed, then taken straight from our temperature-controlled unit to the packing bench.
- A box goes out with a foil liner bag inside, and ice packs go in first.
- The meat goes on top of the ice packs, in this order chicken and mince, then more ice packs are laid over it.
- The foil liner is sealed shut, the invoice goes on top and the box is taped up for collection by DPD.
In the video Dean explains that the sealed foil liner and ice packs keep the contents cold for two to three days. That is a safety margin for the journey, not a reason to leave the box in the porch, so unpack it the day it arrives.
What to do when your box arrives
- Unpack straight away and check the labels against your invoice.
- Fridge anything you will cook in the next day or two. Your fridge should run between 0 and 5°C.
- Freeze the rest in its sealed pack, flat, so it freezes quickly and stacks neatly at -18°C.
- Defrost in the fridge overnight on a tray, never on the worktop.
- Cook chicken until the thickest part reaches 75°C; mince should be browned all the way through.
